Body Piercing has been around for centuries, and is even mentioned in biblical times. It's practice has served many social functions, including spirituality, social hierarchy, fashion, religion, non-conformism, and eroticism, among many others. Monroe Piercings (also known as a 'Madonna' or 'Crawford') are placed off-center, above the upper lip, and are designed to resemble a beauty spot, inspired by the classic look of the stars it's named after. Should I get a barbell or nipple ring for my nipple piercing ...

Setta,

Go for the barbell then, if you want to, change to a ring when you’ve healed a bit.

It’s a great piercing but it does hurt when it gets caught during the initial few weeks and (having had mine pierced on two separate occasions) I’d go for the bar every time as there’s less to catch.

You may just also want to consider whereabouts on your nipple you want to be pierced. Apparently, men have very small nipples (and I’m no exception). The first time the piercer went in one side and out of the other at the very base of the nipple itself – this meant the diameter of the piercing under the surface was approximately 5mm. Although I was really careful, the bar was always catching on things and, despite my best efforts, after a month I took it out as it was more trouble than it was worth – it healed without a trace. However, a few months later during a trip to the coast I decided to give it another try. The guy at the seaside piercing place was just as good as the first one but, rather than piercing the base of the nipple itself, he pierced into and out of the areola either side of the nipple. I have to say that because he pierced further and deeper it hurt more than the first time whilst he did it but afterwards I had very few problems at all – it still got caught every so often but when it did it didn’t ‘pull’ as much. It didn’t become sore and appeared to heal quite quickly.
