I. Leo Moskovitz recalls descending deep into the pitch blackness of the Hudson Coal Co. mine in the 1930s. An accountant who had learned shorthand in college, Mr. Moskovitz accompanied a mine superintendent into the dank tunnels on routine monthly inspections.
Wearing helmets with carbide lamps, the superintendent dictated mine conditions to Mr. Moskovitz, who jotted down notes that he later typed into five-page reports. The experience left him with a lifelong respect for miners and their daily work and hazards.
"I thought I was a bit of a boss, but the first time I went down into the mine, I was scared. It was so dark and black," said Mr. Moskovitz, who will turn 107 on Thursday.

I adore “granny” clothes, as my husband calls them. There’s something delightfully subversive about being a Feminist while wearing the trappings of the 1950s Patriarchy. Plus, ZOMG PRETTY DRESSES!!1!
I’m going to primarily focus on the 1950s through the 1980s, as that’s the bulk of what’s out there, and it will be fairly easy to care for and find in a way that the older stuff is not always. Also, these posts will about women’s clothing, because that’s what I know about. Sorry, gents.
Today’s episode: the fabulous fifties !

Dress patterns also transformed a great deal with bustier dresses with total dresses turning out to be a significant trend.
