In loving memory of CBS television correspondent Andy Rooney, who died recently, I have conjured up my own profound thoughts on a very ordinary item. Mr. Rooney often took issue with such everyday subjects as the logic of putting big wads of cotton in medicine bottles, and the wonder of assorted household cleansing products.
I thought and thought about some small, insignificant, tangible thing in my life that I might find worthy of mentioning. Picture frames, garden pruners, key chains, depression medications, cake mixes…the list was endless. But then, that magic bell went off in my head. Of course. The perfect ringy-dingy: the EARRING!
Now, this topic won’t bring as many comments as recent Patch articles on circumcision of male babies or how our Splost sales taxes will be spent. But let’s face it; most women today have more earrings in their possession than they do shoes in the closet (discounting Oprah, Imelda and my dear friend Kim) or spices in the kitchen cabinet (discounting Martha Stewart, and any of the countless other celebrity chefs).
